Christopher Hill - 1987

Milton and the English Revolution

Christopher Hill was born in England in 1912. He attended Calliol College, Oxford University and graduated with a first-class Bachelor of Arts in modern history in 1934. During this time he joined the Communist Party of Great Britain.

From 1965 to 1978, Hill was Master of Balliol College, Oxford University. In 1946, Hill and other Marxist historians formed the Communist Party Historians Group. Hill authored many books including Economic Problems Of The Church, Puritanism and Revolution, Intellectual Origins of the English Revolution, The Century of Revolution and The World Turned Upside Down.

Hill delivered a series of three Beatty lectures in November 1987 titled "Milton and the English Revolution", "Bunyan and His World" and "The End of the World".
