BLG’s generous donation marks significant step for community investment in new MUHC

Top quality health care is central to ensuring Montreal remains a leading international city that offers an enhanced quality of life. These were the words of John Murphy, Regional Managing Partner of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, as Canada’s largest law firm announced a $500,000 donation to The Best Care for Life Campaign today, which raises funds to support the redevelopment of the ۲ݮƵ University Health Centre on the Glen, Mountain and Lachine campuses. Murphy added: “We hope that our gift will inspire others”.

“The ۲ݮƵ University Health Centre is committed to being one of the world’s foremost academic health centres,” stated the Hon. Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the ۲ݮƵ University Health Centre. “As such, we are delighted that community members such as Borden Ladner Gervais are supporting the construction of our new facilities through The Best Care for Life Campaign. This gift will help transform health care for ۲ݮƵ to come.”

“Since its inception BLG has been a present and active member of the Montreal community. Our support of the ۲ݮƵ University Health Centre is an extension of our commitment to the community and to the health and well-being of Montrealers. Our partners are proud to contribute to this essential and leading-edge project,” said John Murphy.

The Quebec government has asked the community to contribute $300 million towards the $2.2 billion overall cost of this once-in-a-generation project. So far, corporations and individuals have donated more than $210 million to The Best Care for Life Campaign, a partnership of the MUHC Foundation, Cedars Cancer Institute, Lachine Hospital Foundation, Montreal Chest Institute Foundation, Montreal General Hospital Foundation, Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation and The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, through its Best Care for Children Campaign. “The community has been incredibly generous, and we are very appreciative,” states John Rae, Campaign Chair.
