Climate change costly for Inuit
Published: 17 December 2009
A new study recommends the Federal Government should help Inuit
pay for the increasing costs of climate change. It says Arctic
climate change is already costing Canada’s Inuit more money, noting
the costs of adapting are falling on Inuit families least able to
shoulder them. Researchers say families who depend most on hunting
often have the least money to afford new necessities. James Ford of
Montreal’s ۲ݮƵ University says “Inuit can adapt to climate
change,” but he adds “we have a number of concerns about whether
Inuit can afford to adapt.”
