OTTAWA – Vanessa Davidson of Kirkland, Que., scored a pair of goals as No.1-ranked ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ tripled the Gee-Gees 3-1 in women’s hockey, Sunday, and run their win streak to 43 consecutive games.

It marked the 250th career victory for head coach Peter Smith and was also Ottawa’s 17th consecutive loss to ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, which owns a 31-2-1 record in their last 34 meetings against the Gee-Gees.

Amy Soberano of Toronto was credited with the game-winner, when she hit pay-dirt at 18:37 of the first period to give the Martlets a two-goal cushion.

Davidson’s third period power play marker iced the contest and was her 17th of the season.

Joyce Spruyt ruined goaltender Charline Labonté’s bid for her 51st career shutout when she scored her fourth of the season at 6:56 of the second period. Labonté was called upon to make a season high 29 saves for the win as her record improved to 11-0.

ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ outshot Ottawa 44-30 and Jessika Audet made 41 saves in a losing cause for the Gee-Gees.

MARTLET MURMURS: Four members of the Martlets will be leaving on Feb. 14 for the Winter Universiade in Harbin, China, February 18-28. Rearguard Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominingue, Que., was selected to play for a Canadian team composed of 20 CIS players, along with centre Vanessa Davidson of Kirkland, Que., plus forwards Caroline Hill of Dorval, Que., and Alyssa Cecere of Brossard, Que. All four are physical education majors and will miss ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s five remaining five games before playoffs begin.
