The ice sheet covering the North Pole and Arctic Ocean could recede and disappear completely in the summer months by 2040 if greenhouse gas emissions continue at the current rate. ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Bruno Tremblay worked on the study, to be published in the Dec. 12 issue of Geophysical Research Letters, with lead researcher Marika Holland of the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research and Cecilia Bitz of the University of Washington.
