Luis Alvarez wins CaGBC scholarship

Published: 7 June 2017

M.Arch. student Luis Alvarez has won the (CaGBC) Scholarship for Sustainable Design and Research. The sole scholarship awarded annually was for Alvarez’ proposal “Sustainability and Resilience in Brazil’s Favelas.” The jury believed that the proposal was “well rounded and addresses a global issue while directly engaging the community and echoing thoughts on economic issues.” The jury was impressed by the way in which “the proposal dealt with sustainability from a holistic perspective while clearly addressing both social equity and urban design.”

This scholarship was established through an endowment from the CaGBC in June 2006. The main purpose of the fund is to nurture the next generation of green designers by promoting and encouraging sustainable research and design in Canadian Schools of Architecture. The Canada Green Building Council’s mission is to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live, work and play by engaging a national coalition of industry leaders to accelerate the mainstream adoption of green building principles, policies, practices, standards and tools.
