ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ 16th after opening round at RCGA tourney

VICTORIA, B.C. – A ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University foursome sits 16th overall
with a combined 24-over par score of 309 after Day 1 of the
Canadian University and College Golf Championships at Cordova Bay
Golf Course in Victoria, B.C. The University of British Columbia
leads the team competition with a 9-under par 275.
A field of 160 golfers from 20 post-secondary institutions from
across Canada is competing for both team and individual titles at
this year’s event, hosted by the University of Victoria and
conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association.
Kyle Schiissler of Beaconsfield, Que., and Sam Hayes of Aylmer,
Que., lead the Redmen and are tied for 49th overall after shooting
a first-round 76. Other ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ golfers include Samuel Mamane (78,
tied for 66th) of Montreal, Sebastien Thibodeau (79, tied for 76th)
of Laval, Que., and Aidan Brownlie (82, tied for 95th) of
Springfield, Mass.
As part of the RCGA’s Pathway to Champions, both the male and
female individuals achieving the low score after 72 holes (four
rounds) of play will earn an exemption into the 2008 Canadian Men’s
Amateur Championship at Paradise Canyon Golf Resort in Lethbridge,
Alta., and the 2008 Royale Cup National Women’s Amateur
Championship held at Elmhurst Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg,
Man., respectively.
