ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Brownlie fifth at QSSF golf championships

SOREL-TRACY, Que. – Mathieu Belanger shot a two-round score of 145 as Laval captured the Quebec university men’s golf championship at Les Dunes golf course in Sorel-Tracey, Que., Sept. 27-29.

ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s Aidan Brownlie, a sophomore from Toronto, tied for fifth overall, shooting 153 as the Redmen placed fifth of eight teams. Brownlie shot 75 in Friday’s opening round and 78 on Saturday.

Rounding out the scoring for ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ was Sebastien Thibodeau a freshman from Laval, Que., who tied for 18th (79-80-159), sophomore Sam Mamane (T 24th, 86-75-161) of Montreal and Kyle Schiissler (35th, 85-82-167), a rookie from Beaconsfield, Que.

The Rouge et Or men shot an average score per round of 74.25 to finished first of eight teams, ahead of Montreal (76.13), UQTR (76.75), Sherbrooke (79.75), ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ (80.0), ETS (80.0), UQAM (80.75) and Bishop’s (86.).

In women's play, Gabrielle Dugre shot 156 as Laval completed a sweep of the QSSF conference titles.

ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ was third, led by Victoria Kayser, an 18-year-old freshman from Germany, who was second in the individual scoring, three strokes off the pace. She shot a second round 76 on Saturday after an 83 in the opening round. Also in the scoring for the Martlets was freshman Erin Mayo-Goldberg of Outremont, Que., who place ninth of 32 golfers with a 177 (89+88).

The final women’s standings had Laval leading the pack (80.25), followed by Montreal (81.75), ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ (84.0), UQTR (87.75), UQAM (87.0) and Sherbrooke (90.0).
