۲ݮƵ's Skulsky to tour with Canadian U20 team
By Earl Zukerman
MONTREAL – ۲ݮƵ rugby star Samuel Skulsky, an 18-year-old
science freshman from Calgary, has been named to the Canadian
under-20 team that will be touring New Zealand, Feb. 28 to Mar.
15.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound scrum-half finished third among Redmen
scoring leaders last fall with 43 points in 11 games overall. He
had four tries, 10 conversions and one penalty goal.
“Sam has worked extremely hard to earn this selection,” said Sean
McCaffery, co-head coach of the Redmen “I’m very happy for him. He
had to fly out to Victoria numerous times over the last four months
to compete at the trial camps.”
Canada departs on February 28 for Wellington, N.Z., and takes on
the Wellington development team on March 6 to open the tour. Five
days later, the Canadians will take on the Taranaki development
side before wrapping the tour against Hawkes Bay in Napier, N.Z.,
on March 14.
"New Zealand will be an ideal place to immerse the team in a rugby
culture, and to have them tested against some of the very best
age-grade players in the world," said Canada’s head coach Tim
Murdy, a teacher and rugby coach at Shawnigan Lake School on
Vancouver Island. "Also, these games will allow us to experiment
with different combinations, and the extended squad will give
another four players an opportunity at making the final world cup
squad."
