The Quebec Press Council has elected Caroline Locher (BCom’01) to the position of Secretary General, effective September 5th. Prior to her election, Ms. Locher was Executive Director of the Fédération professionelle des journalistes du Québec. A journalist by trade, she worked as a CBC Radio One producer, and as a bilingual reporter on the international stage at BBC World Service, France24 and Radio-Canada. Ms. Locher says she will continue to “defend press freedom and the public’s right to information,” and to promote the value of journalistic integrity.

Professor Paola Perez-Aleman was the supervisor of her research.

Natalia graduated in June 2017 and is currently an Assistant Professor of International Business at HEC Montreal.

According to StockWatch, Vancouver-based resource company Colonial Coal International Corp. has appointed Matthew James Anderson (BCom'05) to the roles of CFO and secretary, replacing the retiring William Filtness. Mr Anderson draws on a lifetime of experience in financials for the resources sector, including serving as CFO for I-Minerals, VirtualArmour International, Search Minerals and Callinex Mines. Colonial Coal develops coal mines in British Columbia, and dovetails nicely with Mr Anderson’s expertise.

At Ogilvy, Mr Chattopadhyay helped bring many brands to prominence in India, including Dove, Pond’s, and The Economist. He also helped re-brand a bank and grow Ogilvy’s own business. Mr Chattopadhyay was named one of Asia’s top 10 advertising creatives by Media Magazine, and brings an enviable reputation, as well as his industry chops, to his new job.

According to Stockwatch.com, Quantum International Income Corp. has announced that Red Cloud Klondike Strike CEO and Desautels alumnus Chad Williams (BEngr’ 89, MBA’93) has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Mr. Williams has plenty of experience to draw on: he’s on the Board at Denver Gold Group, and has worked in senior management at Victoria Gold, Blackmont Capital and TD bank. He also founded Westwind Capital and Agilith Capital, as well as his current company, which specializes in mining-sector growth financing and investment.

Desautels alumnus John Snisarenko (BSc’86 and MBA’91) has been appointed Group VP of the Ophthalmology Business Unit for Shire US. He comes to Shire from Genentech, where he was VP Sales and Marketing. Before that, he worked on long-term strategy for Novaris Pharma Canada and started an ophthalmology division for CIBA Vision. He has also worked for Alcon Canada and Allergan Canada.

Mr. Snisarenko is filling the spot left vacant by Robert Dempsey, who has moved up to VP of Global Ophthalmics.

Lester Fernandes (MBA’82) has been appointed to lead the audit committee of Montreal-based human-capital manager Rideau Recognition Solutions. The company is in full-on expansion mode; according to CEO Peter Hart, Mr. Fernandes’ experience will help the company hit its goals. And that experience is extensive: he’s been senior VP and CFO at Pivotal Payments since 2001. Before that, he spent a decade at BMO. He was also on the board of Castle Resources until 2016.
