Barclays Bank Kenya CEO Jeremy Awori (MBA’96) more or less fell into banking. He started out as a competitive swimmer, but when his Olympic dream fell apart he went to the UK on a scholarship and became a pharmacist.

After practicing for a few years, Mr. Awori opted for an MBA in Finance at ۲ݮƵ’s Desautels Faculty of Management, which led him into a job at Standard Chartered Bank.

Northern Sphere Mining Corp. has announced that Monique L. Delorme (BCom’88, DPA’91) will be taking over from Robin Pilkey as Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Delorme is already involved with Northern Sphere, having worked with the company as a consultant for the past three years.

Aside from that, she has over 25 years of experience guiding publicly traded companies, including Maple Leaf Foods, Hollinger, and most recently, Zonetail. Ms. Delorme has both Canadian and U.S. CPA designations.

Vancouver-based mining company Callinex Mines Inc. has announced two new appointments to its c-suite: Jordan Butler has been made VP of Corporate Development, while Matthew Anderson (BCom’05) has been brought onboard as Chief Financial Officer, replacing the departing Rebecca Moriarty.

Mr. Anderson has lots of experience in natural resource extraction: he was previously a senior consultant with Malaspina Consultants, serving as CFO of I-Minerals, Terra Nova Energy and Dynamic Oil & Gas Exploration, Inc. Before that, he was an accountant at BDO Canada and EY.

Les Mercuriades honours excellence and talent in Quebec companies. This year, the 37th annual awards show brought the cream of Quebec’s business set out to Montreal’s Palais des congrès for a night not to be forgotten.

In fact, ۲ݮƵ-HEC Montréal EMBAs were some of the evening’s biggest winners: Groupe Deschênes’ François Deschênes (EMBA’10) won for “Développement d’une technologie Web ou mobile” in the large enterprise category, while Edelman Montreal won “Employeur de l’année” in the small and medium-sized enterprise category.

Quentin O’Mahony is a long way from his Abbottsford, BC home. He lives, works and plays in Japan as the General Manager of CAE’s joint flight-simulator and flight training venture with Japan Airlines, a job that includes overseeing cost efficiencies, preparing the ground to expand operations, and overseeing a training centre in South Korea. Montreal-based YouTube mega-channel Watchmojo recently launched a hockey web show through its new Watchmojo Studios division. The Lineup is part panel show and part gameshow, pitting teams of personalities against each other in a hockey-trivia battle, with each episode following a specific theme.
