HR update to managers – MUNACA negotiations
As we enter the annual compensation review period, the following information is provided to managers and supervisors to keep them abreast and help them discuss or answer questions from staff pertaining to the ongoing negotiations with MUNACA.
۲ݮƵ and MUNACA leadership began negotiations on a new collective agreement in Fall 2020. Since then, the parties have met regularly, despite challenges associated with the pandemic, and have come to agreement on most of the non-monetary elements.
۲ݮƵ University has agreed on all aspects of new collective agreements with three bargaining units represented by SEU: Trades (Downtown Campus); Powerhouse (Downtown Campus); Trades & Powerhouse (Macdonald Campus). The Union will soon invite its membership to general assemblies to vote on the proposed new collective agreements. The parties have agreed not to communicate the contents of the agreements until the votes has taken place.

The AMUSE Union for casual employees held its General Assembly online on January 25, 2022 to present the tentative agreement to its members. We are pleased to announce that members voted in favor of the proposed new collective agreement. The current agreement expired on May 31, 2020. The new agreement will come into effect upon signature by the parties and will expire on May 31, 2025.
The parties will finalize and sign the text of the new agreement, and in the coming weeks, the detailed terms will be shared with the community.
Agreement in principle – AMUSE/PSAC non-academic casual employees
We are pleased to announce that following a year and half of collective agreement negotiations between the parties, ۲ݮƵ and AMUSE (AMUSE/PSAC) reached an agreement in principle on December 16, 2021.
The parties’ negotiation committees have agreed to recommend the contents of the agreement to their respective constituents and to keep the details of the agreement confidential until the Union has had an opportunity to share them with its members.
Since June 30, 2021, the parties have met 4 times to discuss their respective monetary proposals. Discussions are progressing, and the parties have discussed monetary items such as:
Since June 8, 2021, the parties have met 5 times in the presence of the Conciliator appointed by the Ministry of Labour.
The parties have engaged in exploratory and detailed discussions regarding the inclusion of Student Housing and Hospitality’s principles and values in the collective agreement, the guest sign-in policy for staff, and the number of guests permitted in an employee’s room.

As we prepare to move to a post-pandemic normal, we are all beginning to reflect on and learn from our unique experiences over the past 15 months. I am delighted to announce that ۲ݮƵ is adopting an Interim Flexible Work Arrangement, which will increase the option to work from home for eligible administrative and support staff, with the approval of their supervisor.
Since the last update on July 7th, SEU Union representatives for Trades and Powerhouse / Macdonald and Downtown campuses and University representatives met 20 times.
