On February 28th, 2017, Professor Emeritus John J. Jonas was the recipient of the prestigious Acta Materialia Gold Medal. Along with a solid, 24 karat, gold medal, Prof. Jonas received a $10,000 USD cash prize. This award recognizes his seminal contributions to understanding phase transformations and dynamic re-crystallization in steel when it is red hot and flying through a rolling mill at 100 km/hr.

Alexandra Plante ’11 studied Materials Engineering at ۲ݮƵ. She participated in the Materials Engineering co-op program during university and accumulated a wide range of work experiences prior to graduation at companies including BlackBerry and Pratt & Whitney. Immediately after graduating, she took a role as a post-graduate placement intern in materials for Adidas in Germany for eight months, and then as project manager at an engineering consulting firm for a year where she had previously completed an internship after her U0 year.

Congratulations to our students from REGAL-۲ݮƵ, Philippe Hendrix, Senlin Cui, Bamidele Akinrinola and Ogeday Rodop, who received awards for their posters at the REGAL Students Day 2015. REGAL-۲ݮƵ was well represented with 17 students. REGAL is a Research Centre on Aluminium and regroups six universities and one Cegep.
