With a number of laureates from the Schulich Community, we couldn't be prouder of our faculty and alumni. The ceremony celebrated the ongoing creativity of the Quebec music scene during the 2020-2021 season.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Iwan Edwards on March 4, 2022.
Martha de Francisco, Associate Professor ofSound Recording in the department of Music Research at the Schulich School of Music, is a record producer and recording engineer specializing in Classical music. Her research interests include music recording with virtual acoustics, critical listening studies and the aesthetics of recorded music.
Andrew Hon, Frédéric-Alexandre Michaud, and Will Myers are the first successful candidates in the inaugural round of the Program to Support Graduate Conducting Students in the Study and Performance of Music by Composers from Underrepresented Groups. This a 3-year pilot initiative is acollaboration between the Schulich School of Music, the Marvin Duchow Music Library and its Gertrude Whitley Performance Library.
We’re excited to announce that Dr. Isabelle Demers will be joining the Schulich School of Music as Associate Professor of Organ.
Professor Sean Ferguson has been appointed as the next Dean of the Schulich School of Music. Prof. Ferguson’s five-year, renewable term will begin on July 1, 2022, and end June 30, 2027.
Prof. Ferguson is an experienced senior administrator with a deep understanding of the Schulich School of Music, having previously served as Dean from 2011 to 2016. Prior to this, he was Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) from 2009-2011, and its Associate Director (Artistic) from 2006-09.
The Schulich School of Music was featured at the Faculty Matters discussion series on December 13,2021which was hosted by Angela Campbell, Associate Provost (Equity and Academic Policies).

Anthony Tan (MMus’09, PhD’15) is the winner of the 2021 Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music for his composition Ways of Returning (2020). An 18-minute-long piece for amplified string quartet and electronics, Ways of Returning was commissioned by Quatuor Bozzini and E27 musique nouvelles.

The award includes a $30,000 cash prize, as well as a smaller likeness of the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin. In addition, the winner will perform in the upcoming Schulich concert seasonandreceives6 hours of career coaching sessions with Marie-CatherineLapointe ofBoulevartArtists’ Management in Montreal.
The Golden Violin Award wasestablishedin 2006 bybusinessmanand philanthropist Seymour Schulich, a year after he donated $20 million to ۲ݮƵ’s Schulich School of Music.His unflagging support ofourmusicians has,through this award,seennearly$400,000giventotopSchulich stringplayers. Forlast year’s15thedition, thewinningprize increased from $25,000 to $30,000, and for this year’s16theditionthe Schulich Foundationhas made another substantial investment inouryoung artists’ futures.

Congratulations to mezzo-sopranos Rose Naggar-Tremblay (BMus’17) and Simone McIntosh (MMus'17, Wirth Vocal Prize Winner 2016-2017), who received first and second place respectively at the 82nd OSM Competition! The 2021 edition, held between September 13 and November 27, took place online enabling the public from coast to coast to access contestants’ performances.
