The use of antidepressants among teenagers has exploded in just the last few years in Quebec.

Figures from Quebec's health insurance board are staggering — three times more Quebec teens were consuming antidepressant drugs in 2017 than they had ten years earlier.

In addition, twice as many teen girls than teen boys are using them.

An animalstudyhas identifiednew pathwaysby which cannabidiol (CBD), the non-intoxicating compound in marijuana, affects the brain and nervous system without getting users high. If replicable in humans, the finding may strengthen the argument that a moderate dose of CBD could be a safer alternative to standard pain and anxiety meds for many patients.

Dr. Bryce Taylor, Chair of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF), announced earlier in October the selection of six new laureates for induction into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, including Dr. Rémi Quirion, Quebec’s first Chief Scientist and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at ۲ݮƵ University’s Faculty of Medicine. One of the world’s most frequently cited neuroscientists, Dr. Quirion is recognized for his pivotal role in advancing our knowledge in neuroscience and mental health.
