The competition, begun in 1986, has launched the careers of many Early Music ensembles, and has been incorporated into the Utrecht Early Music Festival as of this year. Twelve semi-final groups participated in the competition. Pallade Musica were Grand Prize winners at the Early Music America Baroque Performance Competition in New York, October 2012, and consists of three Schulich alumni :Tanya LaPerrière, baroque violon, Elinor Frey, baroque cello, Esteban La Rotta, theorbo, as well as Mylène Bélanger, harpsichord.
The competition, held last month in Bremen, Germany, is in honour of the country's most important Baroque Organ builder. Third prize winner, Mark McDonald is a doctoral student at the Schulich School of Music of ۲ݮƵ University where he studies organ and harpsichord performance and teaches classes in musicianship.
The Prize guarantees the first prize winning quartet quartet a place at the 2015 ۲ݮƵ International String Quartet Academy, and will cover travel, accommodation and per diems. The winner of the prize will be announced at the same time and in the same manner as all other prizes, at the awards ceremony after the final on Sunday March 29th, 2015.

Pianist Chris Kusuhara, a student of Kyoko Hashimoto has been awarded Second Prize and the Special Award at the National Music Festival held in Kelowna, B.C. In 2013 he received a Developing Artist Grant from the Hnatyshyn Foundation.

With a total of seven prizes at the SOCAN Foundations Awards to Young Composers, the Schulich School of Music Composition Area has performed remarkably. Four out five of the 2014 SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers have been awarded to current or former Schulich Students, and prize winners in the Sir Ernest MacMillan awards Category consist exclusively of former Schulich Students. A new approach to music theory education. Three videos illustrate the master apprentice method of teaching the art of counterpoint with all transpositions and shortenings of cadential passages. The videos, filmed at the Schulich School of Music, feature a spectacular four octave Italian harpsichord that is part of the Kenneth Gilbert Harpsichord Collection.
In Oboe Secrets: 75 Performance Strategies for the Advanced Oboist and English Horn Player, Jacqueline Leclair tackles the oboe’s reputation as an especially difficult instrument and illustrates how oboists and English horn players can overcome common challenges.
