Research Seminar with Alicia Boatswain-Kyte - Differential trajectories: Black children and the Quebec child welfare system
Decades of research have demonstrated that Black children are disproportionately reported to the child welfare system and that this same intervention is associated with long-term adverse outcomes. In Quebec, Black children have always been over-represented in the child welfare system. Given the pervasive and persistent nature of racial disparity and our inability to effectively respond, a reimagining and transformation of child welfare is needed. This presentation seeks to provide an overview of the differential treatment received by Black children within Quebec’s child welfare system through use of a critical race perspective supporting community accountability.
