Research Seminar with Lise Milne - A tri-provincial survey on the personal and professional experiences of group care workers: Laying the foundation for supporting trauma-informed care provision
An extraordinary number of adolescents in group care contexts have experienced high levels of trauma exposures and related externalizing and internalizing symptoms that can be challenging to manage. Yet, little research attention has been paid to how the personal and professional experiences of group care workers shape their attitudes about providing trauma-informed care (TIC) to these adolescents. Thus, this essential first step is often overlooked in practice, even as implementation of TIC models within child-serving organizations is rapidly growing. The objective of this exploratory pilot survey study was to capture the personal and professional experiences and perspectives of group home workers from across three provinces, with a view to informing organizations about their training and support needs, to better meet the needs of traumatized adolescents.
