Dr. Peter Chauvin Receives 2023 W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education

Dr. Peter Chauvin has been honored with the prestigious 2023  This esteemed recognition, established by the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry, pays tribute to Dr. Bill Wood's extraordinary commitment to research, teaching, and service. The award recognizes Dr. Peter Chauvin's outstanding contributions to dental education and his unwavering dedication to the development and success of his students, and his commitment to academic excellence, curriculum enhancement, and the preparation of future dentists.

Dr. Chauvin's expertise in Oral Pathology is a valuable asset to the Montreal General Hospital of the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University Health Centre, the Department of Pathology and our Faculty. His research focuses on clinical oral pathology, with a particular interest in mucosal diseases and disorders. Through his investigations, Dr. Chauvin contributes to advancing the understanding and management of these conditions. When asked what has been most rewarding for him, Dr. Chauvin says " the establishing a clinical oral pathology rotation for the students in a hospital based clinic and patient based clinical teaching."

As Assistant Dean, Dr. Peter Chauvin plays a pivotal role in the undergraduate dental curriculum and evaluation. He participates actively in the administration of academic policies, curriculum development, and ensuring adherence to accreditation standards. His dedication to maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date courses ensures that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them to become competent and qualified dentists.

Dr. Chauvin also serves as the Chair of the Admissions committee, overseeing the selection process and ensuring that prospective students are well-prepared to pursue a successful career in dental medicine and oral health sciences. His commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom, as he works tirelessly to ensure that graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to pass licensure examinations.

"I am honoured to receive the ACFD W.W. Wood award because it is awarded by the students" says Dr. Chauvin, "I appreciate that the students recognize the efforts that I have made towards the teaching of Oral Pathology in the third and fourth years of the undergraduate program."
