Appointment of Dr. Kaberi Dasgupta as the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Division Director of General Internal Medicine

Congratulations to Dr. Kaberi Dasgupta on her appointment as the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Division Director of General Internal Medicine.

Dr. Dasgupta is a Physician Scientist and tenured Full Professor of Medicine since 2019. She grew up in Charlottetown where she completed her BSc at University of Prince Edward Island. Thereafter, she was ‘made at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ,’ receiving her medical degree in 1993, completing GIM training in 1997, and an MSc in epidemiology in 1999. Between 1997 and 2002, she practiced as a general internist in Amos, Quebec. She returned to ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ as a physician scientist in 2002.

Dr. Dasgupta’s research focus is prevention, remission, and self-management in diabetes. She held the CIHR New Investigator award and all FRQS clinician scientist awards from Junior 1 to Senior levels. Her research is funded by the CIHR, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Lawson Foundation, and Diabetes Canada. She has 160 publications, has trained multiple scientists and physician scientists, and co-authors Diabetes Canada clinical practice guidelines on remission, physical activity, and type 2 diabetes pharmacotherapy. Her work receives a high level of media coverage because of its direct relevance to patients, practitioners, and policy makers. She has been attending on the Clinical Teaching Units and internal medicine consult service at the Montreal General Hospital since 1998, regularly inspired by the enthusiasm and dedication of our trainees.

Dr. Dasgupta's previous leadership positions include Division Director of Clinical Epidemiology (2014-2018) and inaugural Associate Director (2014-2018) and then Director (2018-2023) of the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) at the RI-MUHC. She looks forward to working with her talented colleagues in the Division of GIM to further strengthen clinical, teaching, and research initiatives, and making it a fun and rewarding place to work.
