Dr Manoukian is an Academic Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgeon with a very strong interest in medical student and resident education. He received the Outstanding Teacher Award from ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s department of Otolaryngology twice in 1994 and 2003. This award was voted on by the ENT residents. He uses the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Simulation Center to teach the different CanMEDS roles (ethics, communication, collaboration and managerial roles) to residents using standardized patients. More recently he also received the Journal of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery outstanding reviewer award and the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery Honour Award, in recognition of his contribution to the Society. He also served as an Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was the acting program director of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University, Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, for a period of 10 years (2007-2017). In 2012 he received from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of , the Program Director of the Year Award, in recognition of exceptional leadership in enhancing Canadian residency education.
Endoscopic, laser and open airway reconstructive surgery
His clinical and research interests span a variety of endoscopic, laser and open airway reconstructive surgery for minor and complex airway anomalies in both pediatric and adult population. He also excels in endoscopic sinus surgery and rhinology in pediatric and adults.
Dr. Manoukian graduated from medicine at Alexandria University- Egypt in 1975, and performed Otolaryngology residency training through 1979-1984 at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University. In 1985, Dr Manoukian completed a fellowship training program in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children’s Hospital Medical Center, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. His clinical specialty in addition to Pediatric Otolaryngology, is complex airway reconstructive surgery, rhinology and endoscopic sinus surgery.
