Research Scientist, Air Health Science Division, Health Canada, Adjunct Professor, Department of EBOH, ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University
"Oxidative Potential of Fine Particulate Air Pollution and Risk of Lung Cancer Mortality and Emergency Room Visits for Myocardial Infarction"
ALL ARE WELCOME
Bio:
Dr. Weichenthal is a Research Scientist interested in the acute and chronic health effects of air pollution as well as the impact of the built environment on air pollution exposures in urban areas. His current research is related to the role of oxidative stress in air pollution health effects and how regional differences in oxidative potential may modify health risks. Dr. Weichenthal also develops exposure models for use in population-based studies.
Objectives:
This presentation will provide an overview of Dr. Weichenthal’s research related to the oxidative potential of fine particulate air pollution and the risk of lung cancer mortality and emergency room visits for myocardial infarction. Recent examples of his exposure modeling work will also be discussed including a land use regression model for ultrafine particles to support population-based cancer research in Toronto, Canada.
