Message disponible en anglais seulement

The message below is a special letter of thanks to all CFPC members from the Governor General of Canada, Julie Payette. The letter acknowledges the dedication of family doctors across the country and your ongoing efforts to support patients and communities through the COVID-19 pandemic. The message includes a link to an uplifting musical performance that was produced remotely and features Her Excellency.

We are pleased to share this message on behalf of the Governor General and add our own sincere thanks for everything you do help the people of Canada through this challenging time. Your important work is greatly appreciated.

On behalf of all Canadians, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

This nation owes you an immense debt of gratitude for your courage and dedicated efforts on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19. Across the country, family physicians are tirelessly caring for the sick, the hospital-bound, the most vulnerable. You are there for all of us, once again putting yourselves in harm’s way without hesitation, so you can be part of the collective fight against this invisible enemy. Along the way, you are staying up-to-date on the latest health guidelines and information, dispelling rumours and reassuring patients.

What’s more, you have made yourselves accessible to all of us in a time of physical distancing, connecting with us over the phone or through video conferencing, ensuring that our health remains a top priority. It’s no wonder entire communities are cheering you on from coast to coast to coast!

I have confidence that with science, data-driven decision making and the steadfast resolve of our citizens, we will emerge into brighter days, led by your efforts to treat and contain the virus.

In this spirit, I invite you to watch the video or download the audio file of the Ottawa Bach Choir’s recording of Dona nobis pacem, from Mass in B Minor, BWV 232, by J. S. Bach. Music has always brought me peace and hope; perhaps this gift from the Choir will inspire you to continue to light the way for us all.

Please stay well and look after yourselves.

Julie Payette

Governor General of Canada
