OPPORTUNITY: Academic Family Physician (& Assistant/Associate Professor)

The Department of Family Medicine (Halifax Site), Dalhousie University and NSHA, invites applications for a full-time academic family physician. Candidates will be appointed as Dalhousie Faculty and active staff with the Central Zone Department of Family Practice, Nova Scotia Health and potentially the IWK. This position involves provision of ambulatory, team-based, and comprehensive academic family medicine care including clinical supervision of medical learners. As well, the successful candidate will be required to provide either primary care obstetrics as part of our DFM primary care obstetrics team or long-term care with one of our nursing home care teams.

Academic responsibilities will include the training and evaluation of family medicine residents and medical students while contributing to the academic development and administration of the Dalhousie University Department of Family Medicine. Furthermore, this position will include academic leadership for the residency curriculum at the Halifax Site. This position offers exciting opportunities for professional development within academic family medicine in a dynamic department with over 800 community-based family physicians in 64 communities in the three Maritime provinces.Ìý

The successful candidate must have CFPC certification and be a current and ongoing member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The successful candidate must also be eligible to obtain a full license to practice in Nova Scotia and be qualified to provide obstetrical or nursing home care. Favourable consideration will be given to those applicants who have evidence of advanced academic competencies such as relevant Masters degrees or other Certificates.

Academic rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a continuing appointment commencing as early as March 1, 2021.
