Dr. Ward will deliver a talk titled Micronutrients and microbes: Some things we know and many things we don't".

Abstract

Micronutrients play important roles in the homeostasis of everything from bacteria to plants to people. Many are double-edged swords that can have negative effects when either too much or too little is available. Several have significant impact at the interface between people/animals and both microbial partners and pathogens. Micronutrients are also 'big business'. The advantages and disadvantages of holistic versus reductionist approaches to micronutrient science will be discussed using examples from day-to-day life and global initiatives.
