Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics offered by the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes technologically-driven and complex learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in cutting-edge thinking, literature synthesis, and and the presentation of complex ideas to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Keywords: microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics.

Unique Program Features

  • The Department has a low student–faculty ratio which ensures that students receive individual attention to their own research, and are able to act as research assistants to the Faculty;
  • The Department collaborates with the four other Economics departments in Montreal to extend the Ph.D.-level course offerings and to offer numerous external speakers and conferences;
  • Faculty members are also affiliated with a variety of research centres including CIREQ (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en économie quantitative/Inter-University Centre for Research in Quantitative Economics) and CIRANO (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en analyse des organisations/Centre for Inter-University Research and Analysis on Organizations).
  • In the last 10 years, over 80% of our graduates have received academic appointments. For more detailed information, please see our Placement page.
