Class of Medicine 1970 Educational Award for Teaching Excellence and Innovation: Deadline for application

The MD,CM program’s Graduating Class of 1970 created this award in order to support a member of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who wishes to acquire and/or further develop skills that can be directly applied to the education of medical students and/or residents at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University. The ultimate aim is to foster excellence through the application and dissemination of innovative and effective educational methods. The focus may be on teaching methods applicable to classrooms, simulations or clinical settings, provided they have the potential to enhance the medical school experience.

For the 2021-22 cycle, (uniquely), two awards of up to a maximum of $12,000 each, will be available. The support can be applied to personal professional development (e.g. registration fee for skills-building workshops, travel and tuition for specialized training) or for a ‘mini-sabbatical’ (e.g. to secure protected time from clinical responsibilities). The award may also be used to support the training of an outstanding young individual, such as a junior faculty member, who has demonstrated a particular aptitude and interest in educational scholarship.

To apply, please submit:

  1. A copy of your CV
  2. A description (max. 2 pages) of your expertise in medical education, with a focus on future plans for the training you would like to pursue and how it is aligned with the promotion of excellence in the education of medical students and/or residents at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ
  3. A letter from your department chair, division or school director or similar academic supervisor providing information on how they see the impact of this proposal with respect to where the new knowledge and skills will be applied and how it may benefit your career
  4. A proposed budget


The application should be single-spaced with a standard 1-inch margin and in a 12-point font.

The selection criteria for this award include clarity of the proposal; relevance and potential impact of the educational innovation; appropriateness of the budget, and; the applicant’s commitment to educational excellence. At the end of the year, the awardee(s) will be expected to provide a one-page summary of what they were able to achieve as a result of this award. They will be expected to acknowledge the Class Gift of ’70 in any report and/or publication.
