Announcing the 2019 Law Alumni Award Recipients
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of alumni awards, presented during a reception on September 11. Hillel Rosen, BCL’85, LLB’85, received the James A. Robb Award, while Alexandre Bien-Aimé, BCL/LLB’10, received the Charles D. Gonthier Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

Hillel Rosen is a partner at Davies Ward Philips and Vineberg LLP in Montreal, where he advises Canadian and foreign companies on their transactional matters in diverse sectors, including commercial real estate, energy, and life sciences. Many publications, including Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert, and Legal 500 Canada have repeatedly identified Rosen as a leading practitioner in his areas. He recently completed a lengthy term on our Faculty Advisory Board.
Alexandre Bien-Aimé is a partner at Shadley Bien-Aimé LLP in Montreal, where he practices criminal law. He regularly acts as lead counsel for individuals and corporations on a variety of criminal matters, including tax evasion, fraud, drug offences, and conspiracy. Bien-Aimé has been involved at the Faculty of Law as a highly appreciated course lecturer. In 2017, the Montreal Criminal Defense Lawyers Association awarded him the Gabriel Lapointe Prize in recognition of the exceptional promise he has shown in his career. In 2018, the Jeune Barreau de Montréal (JBM) recognized him as “Avocat JBM de l’année” in the criminal law category.
Our alumni awards honour graduates who have earned special recognition for their professional achievements, continued participation in faculty life, and commitment to justice. The James A. Robb Award celebrates those who have given time and efforts to support the Faculty of Law in the pursuit of its academic endeavours. It is named after Jim Robb, BCL’54, a former ۲ݮƵ governor and ex-president of the ۲ݮƵ Alumni Association. The Charles D. Gonthier Outstanding Young Alumni Award recognizes a jurist who has graduated within the past decade and whose professional achievement, community service, and commitment to the Faculty are exemplary. The award is named after the late Mr. Justice Charles Gonthier (1928-2009), CC, BCL’51, LLD’90.
