Rare Stitches: Knitting Inspired by Illuminated ManuscriptsÌýÌý

This winter, wrap yourself in the warmth of a rare book! Though we can’t surround ourselves by the stacks or revel in the rare books collection in person, join us to learn how to surround yourself with a handknit cowl inspired by the holdings of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s Rare Books and Special Collections.

In this workshop, historian and knitter Kristen Howard will bring medieval manuscripts to life by exploring the history of illuminated manuscripts and how to transform rare books into handknits. Come away with a new understanding of book history and modern colorwork knitting patterns. This virtual event is for book lovers and crafters alike -- but no knowledge of knitting required!

Note: The event will be recorded and circulated after the fact to all who RSVP.

KristenÌýC. Howard is a historian, knitter, and Master of Information Studies student at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University. She completed a PhD in History from the Division for Late Medieval and Reformation Studies at the University of Arizona in 2020. Her current research focuses on social welfare and medical care in early modern Switzerland.Ìý
