Our People: Chantal Hébert

Chantal Hébert sat down with us to discuss her course in the Max Bell School MPP

For the past few weeks, political columnist Chantal Hébert has been teaching in our MPP program. We sat down with her to find out why she thinks understanding the political landscape is key to being able to craft good public policy.

About Chantal Hébert

Chantal Hébert began her career in Toronto as a reporter for the regional newsroom of Radio-Canada in 1975 before moving on to Parliament Hill for Radio-Canada. She has served as parliamentary bureau chief for Le Devoir and La Presse. Ms. Hébert is a graduate of Glendon College, York University. She is a Senior Fellow of Massey College at the University of Toronto and holds honorary doctorates from Bishop’s, York University, the University of Western Ontario and Concordia University.  She is a recipient of two Asia-Pacific media fellowships (Malaysia and Japan).  She is the 2005 recipient of the APEX Public Service Award. 

In 2006, she received the Hy Solomon award for excellence in journalism and public policy, as well as York University’s Pinnacle Achievement Bryden Alumni award. Ms. Hébert’s second book titled The Morning After  was published in September 2014.  In 2014 she won a National Magazine Award (gold) for her political column in L’actualité. She is an officer of the Order of Canada.
