Andrea currently holds the Molson Neuro-Engineering Fellowship and UNIQUE Neuro-AI Excellence Award at the Montreal Neurological Institute of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University, working with Dr. Bratislav Misic and Dr. Danilo Bzdok. The overarching goal of Andrea’s research is to articulate and quantify how the brain’s network organisation and its dynamical regime jointly orchestrate information processing. To tackle this question, his research integrates multimodal, multi-species neuroimaging (functional and diffusion MRI, PET, transcriptomics) and theory-driven computational modelling.
Originally from Italy, Andrea completed his Ph.D. as a Gates Scholar at the University of Cambridge and the Alan Turing Institute. Combining network neuroscience and a newly introduced characterisation of synergistic information, Andrea’s doctoral work demonstrated how perturbations of the brain’s structural connectivity due to severe brain lesions, and perturbations of the brain’s dynamical regime due to general anaesthesia, can have both convergent and divergent effects on the brain’s capacity to integrate information and support consciousness.
