The last century has witnessed a radical transformation in society’s perceptions of the herb Cannabis sativa. Scientific research and political initiatives that would have been unthinkable two decades ago have identified the substance’s mechanisms of action as well as its medical benefits and risks. Yet even as Canada enters a new era of non-medical use, cannabis continues to spark polarizing, incendiary debate. This talk explores the journey from plant to policy, and the enduring controversies that challenge the expansion of cannabis research today.

The public is cordially invited.
