Cultural safety in a research context: Presenting roundtable final results

Thursday, June 6, 2024 14:00to15:00

On June 6, 2024, at 2 p.m., at the Indigenous Space of the Department of Family Medicine of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University (5858, chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, 2nd floor) an event will be held whose aim is to present the final results from the Roundtable on cultural safety in a research context.

This event is jointly organized by the Support Unit (SSA) Quebec Indigenous Health Research program; the Office of Joyce's Principle; ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Department of Family Medicine; and Quebec Network Environment for Indigenous Health Research (QcNEIHR) Tahatikonhsontóntie'.

As a reminder, the Roundtable on Cultural Safety in a Research Context took place from April 26 to 28, 2023 and brought together 45 people. Its objective was to define and identify the best ways to conduct culturally safe research in Indigenous health contexts by placing the voices and knowledge of Indigenous people and their allies at the centre of the process.

Our spokespersons, Alex McComber, Jennifer Petiquay-Dufresne, Treena Delormier and Minnie Grey will share the essential conditions to create culturally safe research environments; recommendations for all stakeholders involved in research; training guidelines; and ways to support and integrate Joyce's Principle into research. We hope you will be able to attend, as it is important to show our strength in numbers and unity. The event will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to promoting culturally safe research environments. Media will also be invited to the event.

Please contact Audrey Monette-Deschênes at recherche-research [at] errsaqc-qcneihr.ca to confirm your attendance before May 31, 2024. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact her.
