Rosaire Mongrain
Rosaire Mongrain, Eng., PhD. is a full Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department. Since he joined ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University in 2001, his teaching activities have been in design and biomechanics courses. He was assigned a total of 66 courses with lecture-based class sizes ranging from 15 to 140 students. He supervised 41 undergraduate students team projects in cardiovascular devices as well as 44 summer trainees. In 2011, he received the Professor of the year award from the Department Undergraduate Student Association (MAME). He is registered with OIQ Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec in 1998. The main sources of research support have come from NSERC, CIHR, CFI, MITACS, and the industry. In 2007, he received a William Dawson Scholar Award (renewed in 2013). He filed 10 patents and was involved in the creation of 3 start-ups companies for the development of cardiovascular implants. The research was disseminated in 104 journal publications (85 full length papers, 19 abstracts), 12 book chapters, 229 peer reviewed conference proceedings abstracts, 53 non-peer reviewed abstracts, 44 invited seminars & lectures. The supervised research was featured in the news media (Canal Savoir, The Gazette, Fluent Inc., Headway, ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Reporter, Dean’s report) and received several awards. Since joining ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, he supervised 8 PDF, 17 PhD (13 graduated), 29 Masters (25 graduated).

My research interests include blood flow modelling in circulatory pathologies (stenoses, aneurysms) and the influence of the flow on these diseases, the study of the mechanical properties of vascular tissues (vascular wall and arterial plaques, erythrocytes membrane), the design, development and evaluation of cardiovascular devices (heart pumps, heart valves, stents, catheters) using numerical, experimental and animal models and image processing for medical diagnosis (motion analysis, tissue characterization).
