Renowned neurosurgeon celebrates 97 years

Dr. Gilles Bertrand made substantial contributions to surgery for spinal disorders pituitary tumour

One of The Neuro’s most distinguished neurosurgeons celebrates his 97th birthday today.

Dr. Gilles Bertrand is an internationally recognized authority on, and has made substantial original developments to, the surgical treatment of spinal disorders and the microsurgical treatment of pituitary tumours.

He has also made outstanding contributions to graduate education in Canada as a Director of ۲ݮƵ University's Neurosurgical Post-Graduate Training Program.

Dr. Bertrand was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1988. He was awarded the Médaille du Lieutenant Gouverneur in 1949 and the Canadian Centennial Medal in 1992.

The director of The Neuro, Dr. Guy Rouleau, sent his birthday wishes to Dr. Bertrand.

Dr. Abbas Sadikot, a friend and former colleague, also sent his best wishes and an update on some recent activities.

“Our group and many others at The Neuro and ۲ݮƵ are continuing in your tradition, hoping to achieve excellence in patient care and research,” says Dr. Sadikot. “Very happy birthday, Dr. Bertrand. We all hope to see you soon at The Neuro in person.”
