Guillaume Fontaine joined the Ingram School of Nursing in 2023, where he is an Assistant Professor of Implementation Science.  He serves as a Principal Investigator at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology of the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research, Affiliate Investigator at the Centre for Implementation Research of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Nurse Scientist at the Centre for Nursing Research of the Jewish General Hospital, and Visiting Fellow at the Kirby Institute of the University of New South Wales Sydney. After obtaining his PhD from the University of Montreal in 2021, he undertook a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Epidemiology at the Centre for Implementation Research of Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, University of Ottawa. As an implementation scientist, Prof. Fontaine navigates the complex terrain of bringing scientific advancements into everyday use, devising strategies to overcome barriers and ensure that research findings effectively enhance healthcare and societal outcomes. 

Areas of Interest

  • Implementation research to support the adoption, penetration, and sustainability of evidence-based interventions, practices, programs, and policies within healthcare systems
  • Advancing and applying implementation science theories, models, frameworks and methods
  • Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases such as COVID-19, viral hepatitis, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections
  • Research involving equity-deserving groups, such as people who inject drugs, immigrants, and gay and bisexual men who have sex with men, to ensure equitable health outcomes
  • Exploration of social and cultural factors that affect health and healthcare access, focusing on the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and other social identities
  • Developing and evaluating interventions aimed at promoting health behaviour change
  • Developing and evaluating strategies to influence healthcare professionals' behaviour in implementing evidence-based practices
  • Application of digital technology in healthcare to enhance patient care and public health
  • Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, scoping reviews, umbrella reviews and other knowledge syntheses to generate comprehensive understandings of existing evidence
