David Rosenblatt wins 2023 Jacob’s Ladder Norman Saunders International Research Prize

The prize, given by Jacob’s Ladder, the Canadian Foundation for Control of Neurodegenerative Disease, honours Dr. Rosenblatt’s work in the field of medical genetics

The Jacob’s Ladder Norman Saunders International Research Prize is an endowed lectureship given by the Schwartz family in honour of their son, Jacob. Jacob suffered from Canavan disease, a rare neurological disorder, inspiring the family to launch the non-profit foundation, Jacob’s Ladder, the Canadian Foundation for Control of Neurodegenerative Disease.

Jacob’s Ladder, the Canadian Foundation for Control of Neurodegenerative Disease, aims to promote research and development for the treatment and potential cures of Canavan disease and other neurodegenerative conditions, develop genetic screening tests for parents and parents-to-be in Canada, and educate medical personnel and the general public on available genetic screening for Canavan and other neurodegenerative conditions.

This year, , a senior scientist in the  at the Research Institute of the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University (RI-MUHC) and Holder, Dodd Q. Chu and Family Chair in Medical Genetics at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University, was awarded the prize for his work studying individuals with rare inborn errors of vitamin B12 and folate metabolism. Dr. Rosenblatt presented lectures at Pediatrics Grand Rounds and at the Genetics @ Genome Biology Program Distinguished Lecture Series at SickKids in Toronto on October 11 and 12, 2023.
