The Redpath Museum is the oldest building in Canada built as a museum. Built in 1882 by Canada's foremost Victorian naturalist, Sir William Dawson, it has its own faculty and offers courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as a minor in natural history.Ìý
The museum currently holds extensive collections in the fields of paleontology, zoology, mineralogy, and world cultures (ethnology). It has several research labs and a Victorian teaching auditorium. The museum is open to the public.ÌýHVAC Upgrade - Redpath Museum
Project Description :
This project aims to upgrade the HVAC system of the Redpath Museum, as the current system has reached the end of its useful life. Projects 18-116 and 18-001 (Redpath Museum – Building Accessibility) preliminary design will be done at the same time. The execution strategy is to be determined after the preliminary design and updated budget are received.Ìý
Project scope :Ìý
The building’s current heating system (hot water radiator) has reached its end-of life and must be replaced. This project aims to provide the building with an up-to-date HVAC system in order to provide adequate heating, cooling, humidity control, fresh air and proper air extraction for chemical fumes.
Scope of work:
- ÌýHVAC upgrade: installation of ventilation system, mixing boxes and controls (including creating a new mechanical room).
- ÌýUpgrade of the main and secondary electrical distribution.
- ÌýInstallation of sprinkler system to meet code requirements.
- ÌýReplacement of the underground plumbing infrastructure (potable water line and drainage).
- ÌýReplacement of the non-conforming fume hood in the existing wet lab.
- ÌýExterior wall and windows treatment to reduce cooling and heating loads on the mechanical systems (TBD).
Projects 18-116 and 18-001 (Redpath Museum – Building Accessibility) preliminary designs will be done at the same time. The execution strategy will be determined after this milestone.
