Pollack Hall, located in ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Strathcona Music Building, is the Schulich School of Music's largest performance venue. Inaugurated in 1975, itÌýis named after Maurice Pollack and supported by the Pollack Foundation.Ìý

The 600 seat hall has a green room, a large lobby and an adjoining lounge sometimes used for receptions. Approximately 400 concerts, lectures and other events are held annually in theÌýhall.

Pollack Hall Renovation

Project Description :

Interior renovation of Pollack Hall to modernize the hall’s functional and aesthetic design; improve its seating, lighting, acoustical performance and audiovisual capacity; renovation of the support spaces, such as the backstage and artist’s facilities; and upgrade of the HVAC systems.Ìý

Project Scope:

The key objectives of the project are to transform and modernize Pollack Hall’s functional and aesthetic design, to improve its seating, lighting, and audiovisual capacity, to renovate support spaces such as the backstage and artist’s facilities, and to upgrade the HVAC systems. The project scope also includes work originally identified in projects 14-148 (Strathcona Music Provide barrier free seating to the centre level) and 19-153 (Strathcona Music: Acoustical upgrade).

A feasibility study was undertaken in 2020 to identify the Faculty's priorities, to validate the project scope within the allocated budget and to define a long-term intervention plan, as well as an implementation strategy that would minimize disruptions to the users.

Scope of work includes (but is not limited to):

  • Reconfiguration of the back of house spaces.
  • Replacement of mechanical units.
  • Renovation of the orchestra pit.
  • Renovation and improvement of overall accessibility of the Hall, including provision for barrier free seating.
  • Replacement of stage equipment.
  • Expansion and complete renovation of two washrooms.
  • Revamping of the East Lounge.
