"While trade dominates Canada-U.S. relations, defence is equally crucial as Washington increasingly views all bilateral issues through a security lens. To maintain a strong relationship with the U.S., Canada must enhance its military capabilities, not only for national interest and alliance responsibilities but also to address U.S. concerns. Despite challenges, including limited public support and competing domestic priorities, Canada must take concrete steps to build a robust military capable of navigating a complex global environment. Strengthening defence will safeguard Canadian interests and reinforce its position as a reliable U.S. ally," writes Rigby.
