July 27 – August 4 | Access to ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Libraries on Lower Campus

As outlined in the most recent update by the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University Emergency Operations Centre, from Saturday, July 27 to Sunday, August 4, Libraries in the lower campus area will open as per their regular operating hours, but will close no later than 5:30 p.m. on the weekend and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. Opening hours for Lower Campus locations during this time period are as follows:

  • McLennan-Redpath Library Complex (Humanities and Social Sciences Library): Open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Rare Books and Special Collections, and ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University Archives: Open by appointment Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Email rarebooks.library [at] mcgill.ca or refdesk.archives [at] mcgill.ca.
  • Islamic Studies Library: Open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering: Open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Members of the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Community for Lifelong Learning are able to access the downtown lower campus and the libraries provided they have a paper version of their IDs (with a ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ ID number) on them.

Holders of the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Library Community Users’ membership card are able to access the downtown lower campus and the libraries provided they have their card and a photo ID with a matching signature.

For those without ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ IDs requiring access to one of the above libraries, please send your request to assistant_dean.libraries [at] mcgill.ca specifying the library and date(s) of your planned visit to make arrangements.


The following library locations continue to be open to all users following the regular opening and service hours:

  • Birks Reading Room
  • Education Curriculum Resources Centre
  • Marvin Duchow Music Library
  • Nahum Gelber Law Library
  • Osler Library of the History of Medicine
  • Macdonald Campus Library

Book Pick-Up Information

The delivery of items from the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University Collections Centre and other library locations will continue and users will be directed to open library locations to retrieve their requests.

Users will be notified by email when the materials are ready for pick-up with the updated location.

Please note that late fines during this period will be waived. Users receiving overdue notices are asked to please disregard these messages.
