This summer, we are preparing to launch recruitment activities for the Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership Program. As we look forward to the next phase of the project, we offer this brief update from our quarterly newsletter.

Executive Committee Update:

The Executive Committee continues to meet virtually each week to strategize, review progress, and oversee administration for the project.

We are pleased to highlight our collective accomplishments since the winter 2021 newsletter. Together, we:

  • Hired an Online Course Designer for the SBNH Leadership Program
  • Advanced SBNH-L Program content through faculty consultations, mentorship development, and the creation of a curated story-sharing resource document
  • Brought together the clinical sites to discuss the SBNH-L Program recruitment plan
  • Began the French translation of the SBNH-L scale
  • Finalized and circulated authorship guidelines for the project
  • Submitted to the ethics boards of sites participating in the SBNH-L Program
  • Submitted two successful abstract to present at the International Council of Nurses Congress

Training Committee Update

The Training Committee has made great advancements on the development of the online SBNH-L Program. We are on track to deliver the program to the first cohort of SBNH-L Program participants beginning in late September 2021.

An abstract submitted by Training Committee members was accepted for an oral presentation at the International Council of Nursing Congress, November 2021. Pam Hubley will give the presentation entitled “Developing the Strengths-Based Nursing & Healthcare Leadership Program”.

Evaluation Committee Update

The committee is continuing work on the validation and translation of the SBNH-L scale.

An abstract submitted by the committee was accepted for an oral presentation at the International Council of Nursing Congress, November 2021. Julie Fréchette will give the presentation entitled “Validation of the Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SBNH-L) Scale”.

Knowledge Mobilization Committee Update

Members of the Committee are currently working with the Canadian Nurses Association to plan an SBNH Global Check-Up as part of the inaugural Global Changemakers series being hosted within the Canadian Academy of Nursing.

At the end of April, Mélanie Lavoie-Tremblay gave a presentation at the Competence Network Health Workforce Virtual Conference entitled “SBNH: an approach to care for nursing students and nurses”.

Throughout May, Laurie Gottlieb gave four talks on SBNH for the CIUSSS ODIM, the Filipino Nurses Association of Quebec, the Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue of Montreal, and the MUHC Mental Health/Psychiatry Academic Rounds.
