We are pleased to announce that the three finalists for the 2022-2023 Golden Violin Award are violist Gene Hotta, and violinists JuEun Lee and Frédéric Pouliot.

These string players were selected following an incredible semifinal round held on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Pollack Hall where seven semifinalists each performed a 30-minute program of music before only three were selected by a jury to continue through to the finals.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Riddell, CM on November 6, 2022.

Wayne Riddell graduated from ۲ݮƵ University with a Bachelor of Music in 1960, was a Faculty Member of the Schulich School of Music from 1968–1980, an Honorary Doctorate in Music recipient in 2014 and member of the Schulich School of Music Faculty Advisory Board for over 20 years. His impact was profound, and his legacy will not soon be forgotten.

Christopher Ducasse is the Fall 2022 recipient of the Program to Support Graduate Conducting Students in the Study and Performance of Music by Composers from Underrepresented Groups. This 3-year pilot initiative is a collaboration between the Schulich School of Music, the Marvin Duchow Music Library and its Gertrude Whitley Performance Library.

On September 24, 2022, Prof. Alexis Hauser was honoured by his home country of Austria. Maestro Hauser received the Decoration of Honour in Gold for services to the Republic of Austria (Das grosse Ehrenzeichen in Gold fuer Verdienste um die Republik Oesterreich), presented by the Austrian Ambassador, Her Excellency, Magister Sylvia Meyer-Kajbic.

Congratulations to Early Music graduates Guillaume Villeneuve (Gr. Dip in Performance’20), Tristan Best (BMus’19, MMus’21), and Sébastien Mitra (BMus’18), who were awarded First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize, respectively, at the  of the this July 2022.

Congratulations to Prof. Stephen McAdams, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the (SMPC) on August 4, 2022. The Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates outstanding contributions from a researcher to the field of music perception and cognition, carrying with it a lifetime membership in the SMPC.

Congratulations to Brian Manker, winner of Schulich's 2021-2021 Teaching Award in the Part-time category. 

Professor Brian Manker teaches Undergraduate, Master's, Graduate Diploma, Artist's Diploma and Doctoral students in Cello performance. He is dedicated to his students and to the art of teaching and passing on his love for music. Students cannot help but speak of his generosity in all things — time, talent, and even, on one occasion, his instrument.

Trained as a bassoon player, Francoise Henri (MMus’98) has made it her mission to fill the lives of vulnerable people with music, and the pandemic isn’t slowing her down. Henri is the general and artistic director of the , better known as La SAMS. La SAMS was founded in 2009 with the goal of bringing classical music to hospitals, long-term care facilities and nursing homes across Quebec.
