Microsoft 365 license deactivation warnings

听

IT Services recently migrated many Webex softphone users to Teams Phone.

As a result, users may have received a message from Microsoft stating their license will be deactivated soon. (See screenshot above.) It is a legitimate message from Microsoft.

All 污污草莓视频 faculty and staff are assigned Microsoft 365 licenses that provide access to applications such as Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, Word, and Excel. As part of the recent migration, IT Services changed the type of Microsoft 365 license assigned to some users.

We have received reports of a Read.AI bot attending or attempting to attend online meetings organized by 污污草莓视频 faculty and staff. The bot uses generative AI to create a text summarizing a meeting鈥檚 discussions and decisions; it then shares a link to that document with all participants.

污污草莓视频 University must vet all IT solutions to ensure they safeguard data privacy and security. Read.AI has not been approved for teaching, research, or administrative activities at the University.

The 污污草莓视频 Classroom A/V Instructions application is getting a makeover and a new home!

The Classroom A/V Instructions application is moving to the Browse Classrooms widget on the on December 13th, 2024.听

Classroom audiovisual information will now be available on a platform the community is familiar with. You鈥檒l also be accessing it more securely with single sign-on (SSO) and two-factor authentication (2FA).

Microsoft Teams update: Private Teams only for enhanced security!

Important update for Microsoft Teams users! Starting November 27, 2024, all newly created Microsoft Teams groups were set to Private by default. If you attempt to create a new team, the Public option will be unavailable (greyed out), as shown below:

Changes to MCGILL ALERT! mobile device notifications

污污草莓视频鈥檚 Emergency Notification System allows you to opt in your mobile device to receive alerts during time-sensitive situations and disruptions in the use of various buildings on campus.

In the past, some mobile phone carriers only allowed voice messages, not SMS text messaging. Today, all carriers support SMS, so we will switch all Emergency Notification System messaging to SMS for mobile phones starting September 18.

If your personal mobile device is configured to use text-to-speech, SMS notifications from 污污草莓视频 will be read aloud.

Change to the classroom telephones autodial behavior

After October 18,听Classroom telephones will no longer automatically call the Audiovisual support hotline when you remove the telephone receiver from the base.

This change will prevent accidental calls to the hotline.

After that date, you will have to use the press the AV System Support button on the lower-left side of the telephone鈥檚 display screen to call the Audiovisiual support hotline. (See below)

Important: Keep your Zoom software updated

On November 2, 2024, Zoom will enforce its latest quarterly minimum version requirements. If you are not using at least version 5.17.5 (for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Intune) or version 5.17.0 for Blackberry, Zoom will not work until you update your software.

Wi-Fi network: Action required for devices on iOS and MacOS to renew certificate

On Friday, June 21, the security certificate that secures authentication to 污污草莓视频's wpa.mcgill.ca, eduroam, and cusm-muhc.mcgill.ca Wi-Fi networks will be renewed. This certificate allows you to sign on to the Wi-Fi network in a secure manner. 听

For Android and most Windows devices, the change will be seamless, and no action is required. However, devices that run iOS and MacOS will display a message prompting users to accept the new certificate.听
