Congratulations to philanthropist Sylvan Adams, the namesake of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute, who finished first in the Masters 65-69 age group of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Scotland on Friday. This event, open to all athletes, had more than 1,800 riders from 68 countries competing for one of 20 gold medals and rainbow jerseys. Then on Monday, Adams also finished first in his age bracket in the championship’s individual time trial, winning by more than one minute on the 22-kilometer course.Ìý

EduBuddies is an initiative organized by the Education Undergraduate Society (EdUS), which aims to facilitate the transition to ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University and higher education for the Faculty of Education's incoming first-year students. This program is a wonderful opportunity for upper-year students (rising U2-U4+) to engage in leadership within the faculty and to make a meaningful impact on new students within their program. New students can use this program to meet new friends in the faculty through social events.

For a qualitative research project investigating students' experience with supplementary schooling, a joint effort project by ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University and the University of Antwerp in Belgium are looking for participants.

The goal is to investigate the educational pathways of students who attended supplementary schooling in the past.Ìý Students who attended a form of supplementary schooling (Chinese school, Greek school, other heritage language schools, Mosque school, Black weekendschool, etc… ) in the past are cordially invited to participate.

The Department Kinesiology and Physical Education's Dr. Lindsay Duncan, associate professor, Dr. Charlotte Usselman, assistant professor, and Will Huckins, master’s student, were featured recently in the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Tribune article on the bans on transgender women in sports.

The governing body that regulates track and field, cross country running, road running, race walking, mountain running, and ultra running competitions at the international level, voted to completely ban transgender women athletes who have gone through male puberty from competing at international events.

Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology & Physical Education, Shane Sweet, and ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Research Assistant, Jacques Comeau, delivered a keynote presentation at the Eastern Canada Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium (ECSEPS) on March 25th, 2023.

The presentation focused on lessons learned in working in partnership from the perspectives of a researcher (Shane) and a research user (Jacques).

The purpose of this study is to compare leg blood flow responses to an acute bout of exercise between individuals with PCOS and control participants without PCOS. 

Young individuals with and without PCOS, aged 18-40. 

Observational Research Study:

1 familiarization visit: 1 hour; 1 test visit: 2 hours
Total time commitment: 3 hours

Body composition (fat mass, lean mass, bone density etc.) report via DXA scan valued at $125 CAD.

On Friday March 10th, the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) hosted the 2023 Minds in Motion (MIM) conference, open to undergraduate and graduate students completing research in the field of KPE. For the first time, the MIM conference was open to students from ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ and from neighbouring universities around Canada, welcoming attendees from the University of Toronto, Queen’s University, Université de Montréal, Université Laval, McMaster University, Trent University and l’Institut national de santé publique du Québec
