The Schulich School of Music at ۲ݮƵ University welcomes an international array of guest artists and student ensembles for the Musical Chairs Chamber Music Festival, two packed weeks of workshops, masterclasses, and performances – all open to the public. Every week, the Schulich School of Music sees musicians from all over Montrealcome together to learn about the music of Brazil. In a ten-week free workshop directed by guitarist Rodrigo Simões (through support of Schulich'sJazz Performance and Music Education areas), a group of over 20 participants has the chance to learn the ins-and-outs ofsamba, Baiaõ andmaxixe on their main instruments, as well as perform supporting roles on a variety of percussion instruments.

Simone McIntosh (M.Mus 2017) continues her streak of successes with an upcoming appearance singing the title role inRossini's "La Cenerentola." The production, which will be put on by Vancouver Opera in the spring, will be McIntosh's first mainstage appearance in a lead role.

After graduating from Schulich (where she won the 2016 Wirth Vocal Prize), she has gone on to work in theCanadian Opera Company's Studio Ensemble for the 2017/18 season, among other notable national appearances.

In a recent CBC Music feature article, Opera ۲ݮƵ alumniLara Ciekiewicz (M.Mus 2008) discussed five pieces that influenced her, including pieces by Dvorák, Stephen Fearing and more.

Those looking to hear Ciekiewicz livewill soon have a chance, as she will make her debut performanceas Tatyanain Calgary Opera's production of Tchaikovsky'sEugene Onegin, which begins February 3.

Dr. Huntington (Skip) Sheldon (1930-2018) was an iconic figure in the history of the Schulich School of Music and ۲ݮƵ University as a whole. In addition to a long teaching legacy in the Faculty of Medicine, he made significant contributions to the universityas a philanthropist.As a result of Dr. Sheldon's generous donations, the Redpath organ was constructed and installed, and the project to build the Elizabeth Wirth Music Building was launched.

In addition, Dr. Sheldon served on the Music Facutly's advisory board for many years.
