Making sure school-aged kids get to sleep at a regular hour is often a struggle for parents. But a study by researchers at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute in Montreal suggests it’s well worth the effort: the researchers found that a good night’s sleep is linked to better performance in math and languages – subjects that are powerful predictors of later learning and academic success.

Professor Michael MeaneyÌýis awarded the Wilder-Penfield prize in recognition of his groundbreaking achievements in the biology of child development. Also recently winning theÌý2014 Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize Laureate, he is one of two professors from ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵÌýamong the 14 winners of this year’s Prix du Québec—considered the most prestigious award attributed by the Government of Québec in cultural and scientific fields. Congratulations again, Professor Meaney!

ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University Professor Michael Meaney has been selected as the 2014 Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize Laureate in recognition of his groundbreaking achievements in the biology of child development. A jury of experts selected Prof. Meaney, who is also Scientific Director at the Ludmer Centre for Neuroinformatics and Mental Health at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, for this honour for his pioneering, cutting edge research on the biological mechanisms by which parental behaviour affects brain development and lifelong function.
