Canadian composer Brian Cherney has been Professor of Music Composition at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University since 1972. He has cultivated a distinctive body of work and an enduring legacy as a composition teacher and scholar of Canadian music.​
This two-day conference will be held from October 27-28 2017 at the Schulich School of Music of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University in Montreal to celebrate Brian Cherney. Former students, performers and scholars from multiple disciplines will come together to develop and disseminate research on his work and musical world at large.
The conference program will include lectures, concerts, and opportunities for public discussion. Keynote speeches will be delivered by Prof. Robin Elliott (University of Toronto) and Prof. Brian Cherney. The Molinari Quartet, Nu:BC, the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Contemporary Music Ensemble, Paul Vaillancourt and other celebrated musicians from across Canada will also gather to celebrate and perform some of Brian Cherney’s most important works, as well as a selection of lesser-known early works, displaying the full breadth and development of his distinctive music.
