Op-Ed: COVID-19 Doesn鈥檛 Discriminate, But People Do

Research assistant and PhD student Rebecca Katz has written an op-ed piece about discrimination in the time of COVID-19. She explains:听
It鈥檚 clich茅 to say that Covid-19 doesn鈥檛 discriminate. Viruses 鈥撎齱hich occupy a grey area between nonliving and living organisms听鈥� can鈥檛 perceive race, class, religion, or other personal characteristics. However, humans and our social structures do, with tragic results, including physical attacks,听proliferating online hatred, and听disproportionate Covid-19 death rates in racialized communities听that represent large percentages of front-line health care and service workers.
Rebecca talks about how marginalized听communities have been 'other-ed' and scapegoated during this pandemic.
