Earlier this semester, our EDI team launched the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Desautels Equity Program (MDEP). In alignment with the Faculty’s EDI Action Plan, the program invites community members to engage in various roles that build community, advocate for cultural change, and improve EDI literacy and accountability.
We also celebrated ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s 13th annual Indigenous Awareness Weeks, co-hosting a keynote event with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, titled Indigenous Business Matters: Truth, Reconciliation, and Sovereign Wealth with Travis Seymour, CEO of the First Nations Market Housing Fund. October’s Addressing Anti-Black Racism: Strategies for Integration in the Classroom panel also marked an important step in integrating the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism within our Faculty and classrooms.
On December 6th, ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ will honour the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, commemorating the victims of the Polytechnique Montréal tragedy that took place over 30 years ago. This day underscores the ongoing need to advance equity, foster tolerance, and combat violence in all forms. The University will be hosting a vigil on the day, and I invite all members of our community to participate and reflect.
